Schnebly Hill Road

On July 24th my family decided to take a bit of an easier drive up Schnebly Hill Road in Sedona. This road runs up the face of the mountain and if you continue to follow it ends up meeting I-17 which goes to Flagstaff. The views are spectacular. You drive along a cliff side road that runs you through red rocks, mountains and trails. The road rating is really only a 2. Most vehicles can make it just fine up the road, but I wouldn't recommend taking your BMW up there. Once we reached the top off to the right there was a little dirt road and a sign with a seasonal closure notice from December to April for motorized vehicles. This road is called the the volcanic loop. It runs along side of the cliff facing and there are some great pull offs for pictures right along the cliffs edge. I wouldn't recomend taking just any vehicle on this road it does require four-wheel drive and it is called volcanic loop for a reason because you have to drive over volcanic rock 80% of the way. This road loops around and takes you up through the forests then back around to Schnebly Hill Road. If you turn right it will take you to I-17 but if you turn left it will take you back to where you started and then ultimately back to Sedona.
